Hailed by top Irish Food Critics Tom Doorley, Lucinda O’Sullivan and Paolo Tulio, Bates Restaurant has become a firm favourite with diners who seek top quality food at reasonable prices. What the critics say...
Tom Doorley:
Authentic and generous
"WHEN YOU WALK into a restaurant and the first thing you see are little bottles of the lovely Brancaia estate extra virgin olive oil on every table, you know you’re likely to be in good hands. And then, when you see things like “Connemara air-dried meats” and “Donard pak choi” and “Bunclody rose veal” you breathe a sigh of relief. Well, if you’re like me, you do..."
Paolo Tulio:
"The menu has clearly had a lot of thought put into it. The first thing you notice is that almost every ingredient has a provenance and many of the ingredients are organic. The second thing you notice is that there's a very European feel to the menu. I discovered later that the chef is Italian, which explained that. Several things pleased me about this menu: first, the provenance of the ingredients; second, that homemade pasta and gnocchi were on the menu; third, that the various risottos were made with carnaroli rice; and, lastly, there were dishes that used Gubeen's chorizo and pancetta."
The venue offers fine evening dining in a rustic and relaxed atmosphere at excellent prices.
